Best Summer Lawncare tips in Wisconsin

Temps are up, the sun is out, and the lawn needs your help to adjust and stay healthy. Here are the top lawncare tips for summer in Wisconsin:

  1. Mow between 3.5 to 4 inches high. You may be tempted to mow lower, but the hot temps combined with cutting too low is a recipe for lawn stress and weak roots.

  2. Make sure your lawn gets at least one inch of water per week. Consider an irrigation system if your lawn tends to dry out during summer. If you do decide to water, make sure you water deeply 2-3 times per week rather than watering in short spurts for several days.

  3. Be on the lookout for lawn pests such as moths, sod webworms, chinch bugs, and grubs. If you are mowing the lawn and notice large amounts of moths flying around, you may have a sod webworm issue. If you notice bare spots you didn't have before, consider checking the soil in those areas for grubs. If the grass around the damaged areas is able to be rolled up with your hands like a carpet, you likely have a grub infestation. Give us a call, text, or email if you need us to inspect and treat any pest problem you may have in the lawn.

  4. Consider overseeding any thin or bare spots in late summer when temperatures begin to cool again. You don't want to overseed during the hottest parts of summer. Your best shot is late summer when the temps are cooler. This puts less stress on the new turf.
